Summers are getting hotter, and cities feel it first.

Climate-Resilient Adaptive Environments for Urban Health and Social Equity — is a Horizon Europe project helping cities reduce the health impact of extreme heat. Funded under the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change (Grant Agreement No. 101296208) and running from 2026 to 2030, CLIMACARE works with five demonstration cities and three replication cities to test, evaluate and scale up practical heat-resilience solutions — from cooler public spaces and better-protected buildings to local heat-health action plans and new ways of financing climate adaptation.

Eight cities. One shared goal.

Eight cities across Europe, Türkiye and New Zealand are putting CLIMACARE into practice. Five demonstration cities — Athens, Pécs, Sultanbeyli-Istanbul, Sevilla and Alba Iulia — are co-creating and testing new heat-resilience measures directly with residents and local authorities. Three replication cities — Oppeano, Southampton and Lower Hutt-Wellington — will adopt and adapt what works to their own local context.
